Boil Water Advisory

UPDATE 1 DECEMBER 12, 2025 1430HRS (2:30 P.M)


A Boil Water Advisory was issued on December 11, 2025, following consultation with Alberta Health Services (AHS), out of an abundance of caution, following a chlorine fluctuation within part of the municipal water distribution system. 


The Boil Water Advisory is precautionary. At this time, the advisory has been put in place to ensure the continued safety of residents and businesses while further testing is completed.  The Boil Water Advisory will remain in effect until all sample test results are received.

On Thursday December 11, 2025, routine sampling indicated a low chlorine level from one of Penhold’s two water treatment reservoirs. Further testing revealed the water supply in the area south of Minto Street was most impacted and a Boil Water Advisory was issued for the over 600 properties in the area. 


Penhold Operations staff will continue monitoring and performing additional sampling throughout the affected area. The Boil Water Advisory will remain in place until test sample results confirm the water quality meets all provincial safety requirements.
Residents will be notified through E-NEWS email, social media and the Town website once the advisory is lifted.

The Town of Penhold has issued a Boil Water Advisory for residents and businesses south of Minto Street. All areas in blue on the map below are impacted.

The Town of Penhold advises the precautionary Boil Water Advisory will remain in effect until water quality testing confirms there is no contamination resulting from a low fluctuation in the chlorine level. The Town anticipates the advisory will remain in effect until early next week.

Until further notice, all residents and businesses are advised to bring your water to a rolling boil for at least one minute prior to using it for domestic purposes, including but not limited to, drinking, making infant formula and juices, brushing teeth, washing raw foods and making ice. This advisory is being issued as a precautionary measure until further notice. Updates will continue to be provided on the Town’s Facebook page and website.
